Hi, again.

I have installed the script and it run.
But the redirection not run.
Display a apache server message...

Check: http://www.pololo.enla.net

(Mydomain ip point )

PHP:4.2.3

Apache version: 1.3.27 (Unix)

I can run the redirection?

There are a few possibilities why redirection doesn't work.
Did you use the index.php included in the zip package? If yes, did you also use the .htaccess file included?
It doesn't seem to be a wildcard problem as mydomain.com automatically adds wildcards to domains.

Thanks, Alex for your response.

Yes.

-I rename the index.html to main.html
-I use the index.php included in the zip package
-I also use the .htaccess file included in the package

Surely, I have committed any other error by my inexperience.

Do you have a dedicate ip address, or a shared ip?
And maybe you know which kind of server your hoster uses (standard linux, cobalt,...)?

I'm afraid that, when the ip is shared, the forwarding doesn't work.

The IP can be shared, especially among virtual domains that are done using names, and not IP addresses.

There's a few other things you need to look into. First of all, i was able to create an account, but there's an issue with your index.php page.

PHP is working since the script ran, but the index.php isn't forwarding me. I get the standard default install page for apache. Where is enla.net going on your server? do you know???

What version of Linux are you running??? If your not sure, that's cool. We'll just figure it out from there. Typical apache installs put the default web folder as /var/www/html/ <~~ Location for the index.php script from the zip file. Everything else should go under that. What i think is happening, is people click on the link on your site, and are taken to the signup for the redirection, but aren't reaching that point when then run it.

It's kind of confusing, and if you don't understand, let me know... I'll email you some instructions for fixing this. Very common mistake.

Thanks again.
You are all nice people in this board!

It causes sorrow to me to make them work in this forum because of my ignorance.
At this moment I cannot accede to my control panel and is already very late at night here.
I will try it tomorrow. Thanks.
The truth is that, in this case, my "audacity" is more than my knowledge. I do not understand very well your english in this post (is my fault, of course  ).. And I do not understand very well what it says to me in post. I feel it. Thanks anyway.

Sorry for my "altavistenglish".!

AAAAHHHhhh. Ok. I'll try to keep this simple then.

Apache 1.3 puts the default websites in the /var/www/html/ folder. When you got to domain.com, that's the location it is putting you in.

When you say your IP is shared, does that mean you have multiple domains going to this same location??? If so, then we'll have to change that and it can get quite involved.

You'll have to set up virtual domains to separate them out. (Unless you already did that, in which case, we'll have to look at something else.)

How many domains do you have going to this server? Is this a server you have control over, or do you rent it from a company?

Wildcarded DNS

Postby Curtis782 » Sun Feb 02, 2003 1:38 am

Please note this is an edited response - I learned my ISP does not provide wildcarded DNS to shared hosting accounts for "security reasons." The Help Desk said I could just e-mail the DNS Administrator and he/she would set the feature up for me, but this was his response. I am aware that Aletia (aletiahosting.com) offers Wildcarded DNS to shared hosting accounts by default... at least when I hosted with them perhaps 1/2 - 1 year ago. I would be a little leary of this company though, because I tried to contact people in the company about billing issues before and asked for phone numbers within the company, but they never gave me a single number and eventually ignored my e-mails. I am sure you can find a better ISP that offers Wildcarded DNS with their accounts. If any of you find a good ISP that offers this capability, please let me know!

Thanks,

Curtis
