Nothing happens

When I run setup.php and click the link to create the database nothing happens it just goes back to the same screen. If I create the database and click the link to create the tables nothing happens it just goes back to the same screen. When I manually created the tables and tried to go to step 3 it just keeps going back to step 1. Help please I am missing something somewhere just cant figure out where.

Oops I forgot I am running Linux with PHP version 4.0.5 and mysql 3.2.5 I believe
