I have wild card DNS, but on a shared IP.. .

Yes, it should work - I had one instance running with the same configuration (shared ip).

ServerAlias is the link in httpd.conf file that will allow multiple names for the same site.

Typically, you'd set your ServerName to myloung.com and have a ServerAlias of *.mylounge.com or www.mylounge.com

is the ServerAlias same as the wild card DNS?

or are they two different things?

is there anything else besides them two that i would need to change?

Nope, it's a server setting in Apache, has nothing to do with dns... (not really anyway)

file is at /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

HOWEVER, if you only have 1 domain, you wouldn't need to change this, but with a shared IP, you should specify the domains so there's no confusion.

Are you the admin or is someone else doing it for you??

That's all that really needs to change when adding a domain. Put something in for DNS, and then add and entry on the server so it knows what to accept for.

Is there a sub directory version of this script?
I seem to be having problems with the sub domain and the admin of my host seems too busy to help me change my wildcard and alias.

im going crazy, please help me
my brother just got paid for my new hostig that supports wildcard DNS but i still failed to get the script working.

when i try

test.domain.com

it first redirects me as page not found, but i email them back and told them i dont think its set correctly.. . and told them that when i goto test.domain.com it should direct me back to my site.

now i try test.domain.com it directs me to the cpanal login.. .
do you guys think my hosting is lieing to me and did not really set up the wildcard?

i still cannot get the subdomain script to work.
i know im not setting it up wrong either, becasue i got the sub directory script working the first time i installed it.
