You say that wildcarded DNS is required - what's that?

A "normal" DNS entry looks like this: "www.yourdomain.com. IN A 127.0.0.1"
A wildcarded DNS entry looks like this: "*.yourdomain.com. IN A 127.0.0.1"
This is possible no matter if you are on a shared IP or not.

If you are using an Apache webserver, it's most likely required to add a "ServerAlias" to the apache config-file. This has to look like this: "ServerAlias *.yourdomain.com"

Most hosting companies set these wildcards if you ask them to do so. But you should better ask your host before you buy the script if they are going to make the required changes.

By the way: in most cases you can test if your domain is already wildcarded by going to www.TEST.yourdomain.com
If you don't get a standard "server not found" message of your browser it's most likely already wildcarded.

so i go for apache config file and add aserver alias to be ......
helppppppppp

before you buy the script

Hehe, my scripts are free - although you culd send me tons of money to pay my 354 room villa in Beverly Hills :D
But to be honest: my webhoster does all the server settings.
Is anybody here who could help?
Bizzar?

Hey guys... :)

Read through this, and guest is correct. Only, you don't have to do the full domain name in the DNS host zone. If you have the zones set up correctly, you can get away with

* IN A 127.0.0.1

You CANNOT however, do *.www.domain.com without setting up a different zone. Instead of doing a domain.com zone, you need a something.domain.com and in that zone, creating the * for the wildcard.

(This is only important if you do your own DNS)

The myred scripts for primarily *.domain.com and that's what most of the documentation is set up for. For more advanced configurations, you'd probably be better reading up on DNS more. :) or paying me to do it for you...

Oh, crap, forgot to answer the original question.

anthing.domain.com returns 404 page? I assume this is problem.

K...

I ran a lookup and it looks like you do your own DNS stuff.

In your zone for bhhosting.com, you need a line like this...
* IN A 127.0.0.1 (replace 127.0.0.1 with your actual IP address)

Next... there is actually a problem that could be causing this as well. When you set up the script, it told you to rename your old index (index.html?) file to something else. (main.html?) Did you do this?

When the script runs, if it doesn't find anything.bhhosting.com, it errors out and reverts to a page you put in (usually your renamed index from before). Check your config settings and make sure you have a page set for this.

If your still confused, let me know and I can email you more instructions.

Spreken Sie deuits ? I´ve got allmost the same problem...

 Installation of the script = ok, wildcardfunction=ok, but still: The script does even not show the index.php nor anything else but directly jumps to the altern. Index-site (home.html) everytime I call up the domain. If You (or You, or maybe YOU  ) could check this on my url: http://www.s-domain.net and maybe have a helpfull advice, I really would be very, VERY  thankfull!

Stomp

In the meantime, I´ve tried several things. If I call up http://www.s-domain.net/myred/register.php I reach the site and I may register (successfully!) a Domain (but the box with the Domain - in this case s-domain.net is missing. The process itself proceeds completely successful - the new built (user-)subdomain functions (redirects) without any problem. I think, "my" problem should be one of these "Trikky-Ones" (serversettings? .htaccess? ...) - could this be? (I allmost do hope so :D )

Ok - however - I now have set the my "real" startpage to myred/register.php and - for me - this is ok!   So, nobody should continue worrying about my questions above - for me it is solved and it works great, thanks :!: )

Hello Alex, I really want to tell You that I have a RIESENGAUDI with this script - and sure - if I`ll sometimes maybe hopefully sogodiswilling earn some extra-money with my site(s) (since quite a lot of years I´m (still) optimistic     :x    , never give up 8) ) I promise, I´ll not forget, that finally it would have been Your wonderful script, which will have opend the secret door to my first million  . No, serious! It´s really a very smart script  ! THXS a lot!

Stomp
