Yes, it works, but only if "register_globals" is set to "on" which isn't by default.
The new version also work if this parameter is set to "off".
BTW nice design :)

Some strange behaviour

Postby Arthur » Sat Feb 15, 2003 12:21 pm

I too was VERY pleased that MYRED v1.2 worked with phpV4.2.3 I guess "register_globals" is set to "on" but I first had to pay my host a substantial sum of money to upgrade my account to include "wildcard DNS" which was only available if I had a dedicated IP

Just a few issues yet to be resolved, maybe you can help please.

1. I need reassurance that include/vars.php is not accessible to anyone as it contains the MySQL pswd.?
I might try replacing vars.php with a new vars.php that just redirects to a vars.php placed outside root directory.

2. The installation referred to altering include/mysql.php but this file does not exist?

3. I run a ( http://www.intermutual.info/cgi-bin/sites/signup.cgi ) script to allow users to create their own FREE homepages and this script automatically writes the new users directory and homepage as eg:

http://www.intermutual.info/arthur/index.htm

Before installing MyRED the user was asked to access their new homepage at eg:

http://www.intermutual.info/arthur

This no longer works and only displays the folder contents and is going to cause no end of confusion to users. Is there a fix ?

Also I can no longer access the admin script (for the homepage program) even though new users can still access the signup and edit pages generated by the script, this is very strange, maybe it has nothing to do with MyRed but it was working before.? Perhaps I need to alter .htaccess so it does not include the "ErrorDocument" lines, would this fix the problem?

Anway, MyRed works well, so when I recover from the additional expense I will surely make a financial contribution...

Thanks again for a fantastic program. I hope you can provide some advice about my question 3.

Hello,

to your problems:
1. As long as the server runs correctly (including php), include/vars.php is not readable by anyone and not more or less secure than any other file on your server.
2. Shame on me: there is no mysql.php (it's in the new version of the scripts), it's just a mistake in the readme file...
3. try to use the .htaccess file I send you with mail (the second line must be deleted, and the last one changed).
Also your administration should work when you replace the .htaccess file

Please give me a short feedback when you were successful

Problem Solved to my Relief

Postby Arthur » Sun Feb 16, 2003 12:43 am

Hey Andelal, it worked perfectly. I am very grateful to you.

Just so everyone knows what the answers are :

1. I accept no one can access vars.php but I had already placed it outside the root directory and created a new vars.php for my piece of mind. It simply redirects to the "real" vars.php and looks like this:
<?php include("/home/myusername/vars.php"); ?>
This works fine but I think is creating a little extra work for server ?

2. You are absolved (forgiven) 8)

3. The slightly rewritten .htaccess file did the trick alright.

The NEW .htaccess reads:

ErrorDocument 404 /index.php
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm

My sister will be visiting your Country in June and I am going to ask her to come to your house and give you a big kiss on the cheek for all your help ... Regards from the Blue Mountains in NSW Australia.
