Redirection Not Functioning

Postby Guest » Wed Nov 26, 2003 2:34 pm

hello,

installation appears to have gone well. All is working. I can register a subdomain.

I have the script set to autoapprove.

However, when I register a subdomain, I don't seem to receive an activation email. so, I have to go in and manually approve the subdomain.

Then, once I approve it, when I try to go to the subdomain address, I get my main default page.

My .htaccess and index.php files are in the root directory, as is the myred directory.

My php and MySQL are up to date versions, I believe.

Is the script supposed to create subdirectories for the domains, or are these "virtual" subdomains? No subdirectories are created upon creating a subdomain account.

These are "virtual" subdomains. Do you have wildcards enabled? Please read the forum rules and tell us as many details as you know.

Here's The Details

Which php version do you use?
PHP 4.3.2 W/ Zend Optimizer

Which server software do you use?
RedHat Linux Version 7.3 +
Looks like cPanel for Control Panel, although the mail is going through qmail by HostRocket default (HostRocket is my webhost).

Is php installed as cgi or as module?
don't know

What is the url where we can have a look at your problem?
http://motor-oil-bible.com/myred/admin.php

What is the exact problem?
The system will set up a subdomain just fine, but even though set to autoapprove, no activation emails seem to be sent out. Once I manually go in and approve the new account, the subdomain still routes to my default root directory page.

DNS Wildcards are enabled. I asked HostRocket and they said yes. Also, if you try any gibberish subdomain it routes to my default page.

More Info

I should have indicated that I've minimally customized the templates so that much of the required submission information is "defaulted" and hidden. Also, the Target URL is pre-filled in using the username the person is trying to set up.

This system is being used in conjunction with another system for my downline dealers, so they register for a subdomain which is their dealer number. The target URL is a page on my system under their account which is also registered with their dealer number.

So, when they register with the subdomain system, the target URL is pre-filled with the correct address and with their dealer number pre-filled in.

That means in order for you to be able to submit a subdomain, it must be one of the dealer numbers I have on file, otherwise, the target URL will not resolve to anything.

Feel free to try any of the following:

502740
1151515
1074996

Emails ARE going out

Postby Guest » Wed Nov 26, 2003 5:15 pm

Sorry, although the subdomains still aren't working. It does seem that the notification emails are going out. My email program was filtering them to my trash folder.

It Works!!!

Although I'm not entirely sure why, since I didn't make any changes, it seems to be working fine now.

Maybe DNS updates last so long?
