SQL Syntax error message - install script

Hello,

I am having trouble gettiing past the first step in the installation,
the install recognises the set up details and when I click proceed I get a SQL error message ...

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use
near 'release varchar(10) NOT NULL default '' )' at line 1


My Linux server ..
PHP version 4.4.7
MySQL version 5.0.27-standard-log

Is this a MySQL V5.x problem?

What version did you try to install ?

If it was for 4 and under then use the version for mysql5
