Subdomain propagation

Postby zeker » Mon Sep 06, 2004 3:49 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if these new subdomains created by this script have to propagate throughout the net just as any other subdomain does that may be created manually in your Control Panel area of your webhost? I know that if you create a subdomain manually, it takes a little bit of time for it to propagate to become an active or a live actual url link.

I have setup a demo site for this script for a client. I have set the wildcard dns on this domain name. If you would like to take a look at this demo site and try it out feel free to. The address is:

http://www.zrs-software.net/demo/redire ... gister.php

I was having some trouble with the dir.php file putting the www. in front of the new subdomain. Every subdomain I have ever been to, this is not part of the url address. So I edited this file only to remove that in the Directory. I have just setup this site so if the link still does not work, it could be due to my question in the first paragraph. ;)

Soon as the url is activated the subdomain will work.

If you have it set up right in the dns the subdomains will work with or without the www

Thanks for all your help Scooby! I managed to make some progress and it was going to the main hosting site. I knew I had done something right I just had to find the tweak I needed to make. I had the Server Alias as follows:

Server Alias: www.domain.com domain.com *.domain.com I took out the domain.com and only have the two in there now and it works like a charm! (This was new to me, so I left it in just in case it needed to be there).

It's a tricky script to get setup, but once you can get it, the second one is easy. ;) Thanks again Scooby!
