admin login troubles

Hey friends

My hosting admin has been messing stuff up again. site was down for over 24hours down to a php problem, now its back up i cant login to admin script .

Is it likely that the admin login prob is down to this outtage? I have thought about scrapping the login and using .htaccess instead but arent too confident with doing so, has anyone done this before.. got any advice?

PS i now officially no longer recommend jv-hosting.net email has been down 3days and counting

Change your hoster
Maybe he has set php's global variables to "off"?

yeah, he turned variables off by accident once. but then signup and whois didnt work either. They are ok now so im assuming its not that this time. Ah, i dunno. Well, ill look up doing it thru .htaccess , thanks all the same

important! if you are using .htaccess to log securely into admin.php (for what ever reason ((like your hosting is crap!)) ) you will need to remove a line in your root directory's copy of .htaccess BEFORE:

ErrorDocument 404 /redirect.php
ErrorDocument 401 /redirect.php
DirectoryIndex index.php

AFTER:

Code: Select all

ErrorDocument 404 /redirect.php
DirectoryIndex index.php

(remove the 401 authorization required or it wont prompt for login)
PS; why was this line there in the first place? should it remain there or doesnt it really matter, i cant see a reason for it and have tested all i can and find it working?!
